Description:

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has a unique history of leading the way in the development of new approaches to cancer care. This new and innovative service for haemato-oncology continues with this tradition.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to develop a new service at the Royal Marsden. There are 2x full time Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist posts available who will provide palliative care support to patients with a haemato-oncology diagnosis.
This new service is supported by funding from Social Finance for a period of 3 years funding. The Clinical Nurse specialists will have an understanding of Palliative Care and an interest in Haemato-oncology and delivering a new service.
The service will be supported by a project manager and data support administrator. The project will also be supported by the Consultants in Palliative Medicine.
The successful post holder will be full time and able to work cross site- Chelsea and Sutton.
1.1 This Clinical Nurse Specialist will work as a self-directed practitioner playing a key role in the development and evaluation of an innovative Haemato-Oncology Symptom Control and Palliative Care Service at the Royal Marsden Hospital
1.2 This post will support the haemato-oncology service to promote early referral to palliative care through identification of patients, support for symptoms through to Advance Care Planning
1.3 This service will be available for three categories of patients aged over 18 years of age. The patient groups will include those with relapsed myeloma, patients being considered for haematopoetic stem cell transplant and those patients being considered for CAR-T treatment.
1.4 The post holder will be responsible for educating both the haematology and palliative care teams in the aim and objectives of this new service and support the identification of appropriate referrals to the service through close communication and attendance at clinics and MDT’s and other clinical areas deemed suitable for this group of patients

To provide expert advice and information to patients and carers referred to the haemato-oncology symptom control and palliative care service
To support patients with symptom control needs and advise on specialist palliative care interventions as needed including pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches
To act as a support for patients and relatives and to provide information as well as physical, spiritual and emotional support where necessary, and referring to other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
To support patients with Advance Care Planning and where appropriate
support the coordination of the Universal Care Plan
To work within the NMC Code of Conduct and within your individual
scope of professional conduct
