Job Details:
The Clinical Nutrition Laboratory Technician is responsible for the preparation, distribution, inventory and management of enteral nutrition (human milk, formulas, and additives). Critical functions include:
- Use of the bar code scanning software to manage receipt, storage, preparation, labeling, and delivery of human milk.
- Keep work surfaces and equipment clean before, during, and after each feeding preparation of feeding.
- Calculate and write recipes for each feeding, utilizing resources in the nutrition lab or consulting the dietitian as needed.
- Prepare feedings, following all safe practices and according to precise calculations in each recipe
- Store prepared feedings in appropriate temperature-controlled environments before, during, and at delivery.
- Take responsibility for discarding expired feedings located in the patient care areas according to protocol.
- Communicate with appropriate personnel (nursing, parent, dietitian, and/or medical provider) any questions or concerns about feedings or recipes.
- Collect and ship donated human milk.
- Think critically while adhering to policies and processes.
- Communicate with a focus on a positive outcome, particularly during problem solving.
- Maintain customer service and remain sensitive to the stress parents experience during their child’s hospitalization. Includes providing positive support and encouragement to breastfeeding moms.
- Work seamlessly with the department personnel, particularly in the small space of the nutrition lab and while managing multiple critical but small tasks. Includes both slow and hectic times.
10-hour shifts, 4 days per week; every other weekend and every other holiday.
Department Specific Job Details:
Education
High School diploma required
Associates degree preferred.
Certification:
NDTR Certification preferred.
Experience
Required 2 years’ experience in nutrition/medical education OR 2 years’ work experience in applicable area (dietetics, human milk technician, clinical laboratory, biosciences, pharmacy lab, patient care or medical assistant).
Day shift, hours vary between three positions, 10 hour days, 4 days per week:
Tech One - 6:15am-4:45pm
Tech Two - 7am-5:30pm
Tech Three - 8:15am-6:45pm
Every other weekend and holiday.
