Description:
To work with the Matron to Manage human and other resources effectively within budget allocation. To supervise and deploy staff where and when necessary to meet the continuing needs of the services. To participate in the investigation of incidents/complaints as required, including preparing detailed reports/letters to complainants. To manage complaints at theatre suite level.
To ensure an appropriate skill mix when planning rotas, delegating tasks and meeting roster deadlines. To work alongside the Clinical Operations Managers for Transformation and Modernisation to Innovate theatre improvement initiatives and modernisation in line with national guidance. Supporting productivity and efficiencies with utilisation alongside speciality specific theatre user groups, together with clinical, management, admin, and pre assessment input. Support change, transformation and GIRFT projects.
To work alongside the Clinical Education team within Operating Services to Lead on the recruitment and selection of staff in line with Trust policy, within own area. Ensure systems are in place to support staff in development. Identify training needs for theatre team in line within the learning needs analysis. Ensure the clinical learning environment is conducive to effective learning.
To establish and maintain effective communication within the multidisciplinary team, including contributing to effective communication concerning the specialism. To delegate work to match capabilities and workload of team members. To recognise, prevent and defuse potential areas of conflict and take a key role in the management of the outcomes. To be able to prepare and present reasoned discussion based on facts, convince others and resolve claims for competing resources.
To work within the NMC/ HCPC code of professional practice and within policies, procedures and guidelines of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust. To act as a clinical role model, ensuring clinical expertise and practice is enhanced. To participate in the assessing, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised programmes of care. To undertake appraisals for team members.
To attend and participate in meetings as required, including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate. To utilise information systems to plan and forecast future needs and ensure appropriate action. To monitor sickness, absence and competence issues and implement Trust policies, e.g. managing ill health, capability.
To ensure systems are in place for risk assessment and minimisation, including promoting a no blame culture in order that incidents and near misses are reported. To create and maintain networks beyond the theatre suite, sharing good practice and information within the trust and West Yorkshire acute trusts. To participate in research and the development of initiatives in practice and encourage others. To ensure clinical practice is evidence-based and act when standards are not being met.
To identify the need for, participate in and support others to participate in, audit, ensuring agreed results are implemented. To lead in the standard-setting process, maintain consistency and take appropriate action where necessary. To be responsible for the relevant theatre budget management. To be proactive in the development of practice/services in the clinical area, through business planning process/service development, in conjunction with General Manager and Matron.
Identify and co-ordinate product trials to obtain cost improvement plan savings, authorisation of stock ordering within the department, holding the department budget. Provide high quality and specialist clinical knowledge and skill to influence procurement decisions and processes meeting optimum stock holding for best risk management strategies. Support Supplies and Procurement team in developing clinical networks by providing specialist clinical input into targeted clinical projects, thereby managing costs, and promoting best clinical practice through effective product selection. Identify levels of savings within the directorate to meet the annual cost improvement programme in conjunction with the procurement and finance teams.
Develop a project plan to deliver within the agreed timeframe. Involve all staff groups within operating theatre setting so that effective procurement and departmental savings are seen as the responsibility of everyone. Lead and co-ordinating product trials and evaluations across the Operating Services Directorate, ensuring evidence-based research is utilised to drive change and develop products choice through establishment and promotion of user feedback/evaluation strategies. Liaise with clinical colleagues at all levels within the Trust, to ensure compliance in the use of agreed standardised products.
