Description:

Clinical To function as a practicing professional working directly alongside trained staff, students and support staff for at least 50% of the role participating in direct patient care in line with the NMC code. To plan and maximise opportunities to deliver work-based learning. As a member of the Professional Development Team support the review and development of the annual departmental education, training and development plans and ensure they remain relevant and contributory to the Directorate and Corporate plans. As a member of the Professional Development Team, develop, maintain and implement a competency based framework for all areas of clinical practice.
To support the development and implementation of the Trusts model of clinical supervision. To support Clinical Practice Educator, in developing and maintaining nursing learning environments that meeting the performance standards of external Quality Assurance bodies. To be a point of reference for support in managing issues/concerns raised by the clinical staff and the Education providers. Work closely with staff from the universities in relation to supporting the Students in practice and ensuring their learning outcomes are achievable and being met.
To undertake assessment of the Student Nurses, preceptors and other trainees in practice as required. To participate in the co-ordination of external clinical placements with university and other educational providers To provide feedback to the Clinical Practice Educator regarding the student practice needs, issues/concerns Leadership As a member of the Professional Development Team lead and supervise the safe delivery of high standards of nursing practice and evidenced based care in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, the Trusts Strategy for Nursing and the Trusts policies and procedures. To assess practice development needs and create a culture of reflective practice. By working with individuals within the clinical setting, facilitate practice by enabling and motivating staff to realise their potential within existing and available resources.
Provide support to staff completing clinical and legal documents to ensure they are completed accurately and legibly, that their relevance is understood and confidentiality sustained in accordance with Trust policy and NMC guidelines. Exercise leadership skills to act as a catalyst for change, actively leading programmes of standard setting and audit. Develop senior staff as practice facilitators. Develop and maintain own competence in agreed basic and advanced level skills.
Ensure the promotion and provision of health education for patients and their carers To provide professional leadership, particularly in relation to the fundamentals of care. As a practice facilitator supervise the safe delivery of high standards of clinical practice and evidence based care in accordance with the NMC code, the Trusts strategy for nursing and the Trusts policies and procedures. To support the Clinical Practice Educator (CPE) in assessing the practice needs of the all staff and create a culture of reflective practice. Work with all clinical staff in clinical setting to facilitate practice by enabling and motivating them to realise their potential within existing and available resources.
Teaching and Learning In collaboration with the Clinical Practice Educator develop education and training programmes to ensure that knowledge, skills and competencies of the professional and support staff meet the need of the service Provide orientation, induction, preceptorship and clinical supervision programmes as appropriate. In liaison with Head of Nursing, Matrons. Clinical Practice Educator and Ward Managers, develop, plan and implement staff nurse development programmes. In liaison with the Professional Development team develop training packages and facilitate other training within the ward/department.
Training and Development Provide clinical support and supervision for Return to Practice and Overseas nurses and review and evaluate progress and impact on patient outcomes, staff, recruitment and retention. To be accountable for own professional conduct and maintain own professional development by updating knowledge and attending study days. To maintain training records/data base for staff in the ward/department. Support the Clinical Practice Educator with the specific training needs, both practical and theoretical, required and support delivery.
Provide feedback and feed forward to staff following supervision, 1:1 teaching or group teaching sessions in practice in accordance with agreed competency frameworks taking guidance from the Clinical Practice Educator Practice within a supportive learning environment for all learners encouraging staff at all levels to deliver high quality care within a supportive environment. Management Contribute to the recruitment and selection process. Conduct regular risk assessments and health and safety audits, action plan and achieve targets. With the Ward Manager and Head of Nursing write and review the departmental training plan to ensure it remains relevant and contributory to the directorate and corporate plans.
Effective working relationship with the Ward Manager and Head of Nursing regarding core service and departmental issues. In conjunction with Education Leads and CPE, be responsible for professional advice and guidance in relation to developing clinical modules to support staff through the relevant pathways and to participate in nursing and HCA training needs analysis. To manage the process of identifying areas of good practice, areas for improvement and improving standards of care throughout the Trust in collaboration with Matrons, CPEs and Ward managers including facilitating and promoting the sharing of good practice throughout the Trust via clinical practice forums and other Trust-wide and national forums. Clinical Governance Responsibilities.
In conjunction with the Deputy Chief Nurse, Head of Nursing/Matron, participate in the planning and implementation of quality and risk management initiatives and targets, including CNST, RPST and Controls Assurance requirements. As part of the Professional Development Team participate in the development and maintenance of evidence-based quality standards that are regularly audited, and initiate appropriate changes in practice. In conjunction with the Head of Nursing/Matron, participate in agreed programmes of clinical benchmarking. Conduct and lead appraisal for allocated staff, identifying development needs and ensure all staff have a Personal Development Plan.
Support ward staff to acquire the appropriate clinical competencies to deliver safe and effective patient care. Ensure all staff are supported and supervised in a way that promotes professional development, patient safety and well-being. In conjunction with the Head of Nursing/Matron, assist in the supervision and performance management of bank staff. Identify and action own development needs and establish personal clinical supervision/mentorship.

Communication Meet with the Clinical Practice Educator on a regular basis to update on any concerns/issues, although any urgent safeguarding issues must be dealt with via the appropriate channels immediately. Communicate effectively with all members of the MDT regarding the NAA/HCSW role within practice Maintain open channels of communication with all ward staff/senior nurses and HEI staff to ensure compliance with NMC code and Trust policies.
