Clinical Psychologist in Adult Burns and Plastic Surgery
Permanent position - B8A, 1wte
Clinical Psychologists or Trainee Clinical Psychologists due to qualify with an interest in clinical health psychology and the psychological impact of physical trauma/injuries and living with a visible difference are invited to apply to this well-established post within the regional burns service at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust with a recent expansion of the role to include paediatric plastic surgery. The postholder will work with adult burns patients (0.4wte), children and their families who have experienced burn injuries (0.3wte) and children and their families under the care of the plastic surgery team (0.3wte). The postholder will join a welcoming burns multidisciplinary team of plastic surgeons, nurses, anaesthetists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dietitians where clinical psychology is well embedded and respected. The postholder will work closely with a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who leads the burns clinical psychology service and an Assistant Psychologist, as well as the rest of the burns and plastic surgery multi-disciplinary teams.
The work involves both inpatient and outpatient working, supporting patients and their families during hospital admission as well as throughout their journey following discharge from hospital. The postholder will work with a variety of clinical presentations including acute emotional reactions, adjustment difficulties, parental distress, anxiety associated with hospitalisation and surgery, post-traumatic stress disorder, appearance-related concerns/distress related to scars, low mood, difficulties managing pain and difficulties engaging in physical rehabilitation.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in an established regional burns clinical psychology service and be part of a recent development in paediatric plastic surgery. It would be desirable but not essential to have experience working in an adult and/or paediatric clinical health psychology setting, working psychologically with adults and/or children with physical health problems or delivering evidence-based trauma-focused interventions
You will be part of the Department of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology which incorporates specialisms in Paediatric Psychology, Adult Medical Psychology and Child and Adult Neuropsychology.
You will work across both hospital campuses: City Hospital (adult burns) and the Queens Medical Centre (paediatric burns and plastic surgery)/
