Description:

We are seeking a medically qualified clinical research fellow, ideally with experience of paediatrics, endocrinology or genetics, to support an interdisciplinary research project investigating hypogonadism in rare neurological diseases. This is undertaken in collaboration with the group of Dr Sasha Howard at Queen Mary’s University of London, though the appointee will not be expected to travel or work at the collaborator’s site.
This project is supported by a unique multidisciplinary team. Dr Alisdair McNeill is a clinical geneticist who works with rare electrical conditions and has identified a number of novel associations between neurogenetic diseases and hypogonadism. Professor Nils Krone (Professor of Endocrinology) is a clinical academic with an extensive background in sex hormone endocrinology. The appointee would be based in the Division of Neuroscience at the University of Sheffield. The project is supported by access to the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Clinical Research Facility. The appointee would be joining a vibrant group of basic scientists and clinical researchers within the groups of Dr McNeill and Prof Krone.
The appointee will be responsible for recruiting and characterising hypogonadism in a cohort of people with rare neurological conditions. Systematic reviews and genomics studies will be undertaken to identify potential novel associations between rare neurological conditions and hypogonadism. People with these rare neurological conditions will then be assessed, clinically and biochemically, for evidence of hypogonadism. Interested candidates would be supported to register for an MD, and apply for further personal fellowship funding.
You will integrate into the Division of Neuroscience, which is currently one of the three constituent Divisions of The School of Medicine and Population Health (SMPH).
This vacancy is part of a Fair Recruitment pilot scheme within the faculty. This is a positive action initiative which aims to improve staff diversity and to deliver an inclusive recruitment experience for all applicants.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
