The Clinical Operations Research Services (CORS) General Oncology/Solid Tumor Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) will support clinical research patients treated at Fred Hutch in South Lake Union & the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains equilibrium between care of the research participant, protocol requirements and compliance.
- Utilizes clinical research nursing expertise and judgement to advocate for others as needed
- Provides nursing and clinical operations expertise to the research team
- Partners with clinic nursing and study team to provide research specific patient and family education and documents appropriately
- Partners with clinic nurses to bridge patient from protocol requirements to clinical care
- Assists Investigators and study teams in pre-screening patients and confirming eligibility
- Supports investigators and study teams in adverse event assessments and documents appropriately for protocol required data entry
- Understands CTCAE grading criteria to assist with proper documentation
- Communicates and coordinates effectively with clinic nurse for symptom management, or clinical follow-up, providing the clinic nurse with all applicable protocol specific information needed for patient care
- Assists PI/Study team in Serious Adverse Event Reporting
- Documents in EHR and includes research protocol details needed for data entry and compliance
- Supports investigators and study teams in reviewing and documenting concomitant medications
- Reconciles protocol required medication diaries
- Supports research coordinators in protocol required clinic visits when research nursing support is needed
- Supports PI in ensuring patient safety and protocol compliance
- Communicates investigational medication holds/modifications to patients as delegated by PI and within scope
- Facilitates communication and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams as needed
- Provides research education to clinical staff as appropriate
- Informs investigators and study staff of institutional policies and procedures that support protocol compliance, patient safety and clinical operation’s efficiencies.
- Identifies problems or obstacles in the systems and procedures related to research operations, and communicates to the CORS Nurse Manager and study investigators as appropriate
- Participates in study required monitoring visits specific to the CRN job description when appropriate
- Attends Beacon orders validation meetings as appropriate
Qualifications:
Required:
- Baccalaureate degree required
- Minimum 3 years of recent oncology experience
- Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or multistate RN license.
- Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated skills in critical thinking and problem solving.
- Demonstrated process improvement mindset
- Ability to successfully work to deadlines and targets
- Experience in the care of oncology patients.
- Experience with clinical research preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
- Baccalaureate in nursing preferred
- Minimum of 2 years research experience preferred
- Certification in Oncology Nursing (OCN), BMTCN, AOCN, AOCNS

The annual base salary range for this position is from $102,420 to $161,865 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
