Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Scholar - Registered Practical Nurse (CSRPN) works collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team and will provide support to novice Registered Practical nurses and those working up to full scope or in new roles to support of business goals including operational efficiencies and optimum interdisciplinary team functioning. The CSRPN will support appropriate training, education and mentorship for clinical staff and supports implementation of evidence based practice to achieve excellence in high quality delivery of patient care and to ensure quality patient and resident care through the effective, efficient operations within established standards, legislative and budgetary requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse, and be a member in good standing.
- Practical Nursing diploma or equivalent education and experience.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Current member in related professional nursing, interest group, or association preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ recent related experience
- Experience as a Clinical Instructor, Preceptor or Supervisor in a teaching position preferred.
- Experience with IPAC principles, education and leadership is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the College of Nurses standards of practice required.
- Excellent clinical skills and competencies as a Registered Practical Nurse providing proficiency in all aspects of nursing scope of practice, effective teaching/learning of adults and safe, effective patient care.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety required.
- Excellent attendance record required.
- Computer literacy and experience with electronic documentation required.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving abilities required.
- Exemplary interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required.
- Must agree to adhere to DRDH standards of behaviour.
Responsibilities:
- Support novice practical nurses or those in training for new roles up to full scope (decision support, crisis management, emergency preparedness, leadership development).
- Support professional development with respect to clinical skills, knowledge, prioritization, delegation, autonomy.
- Improve collaboration between team members and units within the Organization.
- Identify individual and team learning needs, organize/deliver education sessions, mock events or other resources to support learning.
- Provide constructive feedback to team and individual members related to performance expectations.
- Develop related learning goals, participate in audits and continuous quality improvement, risk management and safety initiatives.
- Support and foster relationship building between units and team members.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures.
- Supports and demonstrates the mission, vision and values of Organization.
- Other duties may be assigned and may not be limited to the scope of an individual department.
