POST SUMMARY

The Clinical Tutor in Midwifery role is primarily supporting the teaching and learning of midwifery students in the practice environment. There is also a requirement to teach and examine on the theoretical component of the undergraduate (B.Sc. in Midwifery) and postgraduate (Higher Diploma) midwifery education programmes.
While they will primarily contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate programme, they will also undertake supervision and mentoring as designated by the Head of School.
The Clinical Tutor for Midwifery will be required to teach and support primarily Higher Diploma in Midwifery and on occasion, BSc in Midwifery students in the practice environment and to teach and examine on the theoretical component of the undergraduate (B.Sc. in Midwifery) and postgraduate (Higher Diploma) midwifery education programmes in classroom settings and clinical skills labs. Clinical Tutors will be employed for 39.5 hours per week, with 25 days leave (plus College leave days). The average teaching hours will be 5-6 hours of clinical teaching, classroom or skills laboratory per day (approximately).
Clinical Tutors will primarily be based in the linked Maternity Health Service Providers: the Coombe Hospital and the Rotunda Hospital. In addition, they will be provided with shared offices/workspaces in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin premises at 24 D’Olier Street, Dublin 2. The appointee will work closely with the Head of School, the Head of Discipline and other discipline members.

Responsibilities:

This is a specific purpose contract. The specific purpose nature of this role is to fill a Clinical Skills Tutor vacancy on a temporary basis pending the return of the postholder from a period of secondment. Employment is not offered on an indefinite duration basis as the original postholder is expected to return. If the postholder does not return to work the post will be filled through open competition.

Salary: This appointment will be made on the Nurse Tutor (General) Salary Scale (€69,524 - €78,017 per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy.
