The Team
The Global Network Services Team is an integral part of the Infrastructure Services function within the Corporate IT organization. We design, build, deploy, and operate all aspects of IT Networking, Network Security and Telephony technologies and services across Tokio Marine HCC (TMHCC), spanning approx. 80 locations globally.
We are a small (c. 16 staff) but high performing global team, split across London and Houston; operating on a 24x7 basis to deliver a stable, secure, and scalable service for Tokio Marine HCC, in accordance with ITIL and Industry best practice.
The team is a global department, delivering to global architectures and standards, with a regional delivery model. We work flexibly, both within the office and from home.
The Role
Reporting to the Network Manager – EMEA, the Cloud Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud-based network infrastructure. You will ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our Azure environments while integrating your strong networking knowledge to enhance overall performance.
This role requires a deep understanding of Azure services as well as a strong technical and practical knowledge of core network and network security technologies and components.
You will be part of a global team, handling all aspects of design, engineering, and operations, as well as helping to establish and strengthen Cloud networking capabilities within the team.
Working closely with our internal customers, you must communicate well, exercise sound judgement and collaboration. Evaluating business and technical requirements and recommends network technologies that, when employed, will meet business goals.
This role is to be located out of the London, UK office.
Key Responsibilities
As the Cloud Network Engineer, you will:

Design and implement Azure network solutions including virtual networks, subnets, network security groups, and Azure firewall configurations that meet business requirements.

  • Ensure optimal performance and reliability of cloud-based network services.
  • Manage and support Azure virtual networks, VPNs, ExpressRoute and Load balancers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues in Azure environments, ensuring minimal downtime and service disruption.
  • Monitor network performance and capacity; implementing any necessary enhancements to improve efficiency.
  • Implement and manage network security measures, including security policies enforcement, via firewalls, security groups and access controls.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits of Azure network configurations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Networks, Cloud Platform, Application and IT Operations to support cloud initiatives and projects.
  • Document network designs, configurations, and processes for knowledge sharing and future reference.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers and team members, to support increased proficiency and knowledge of Azure Cloud networking.
  • Be proactive with identifying and delivering opportunities for service improvements.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Technical Skills & Competencies

Must have

  • In-depth knowledge of Azure services, including Virtual Network, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, Network Security Groups, Azure Firewall, and Azure Traffic Manager
  • Strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and subnetting.
  • You should have expertise with network connectivity methods, such as VPN or WAN and be able to navigate the Azure portal and Azure PowerShell
  • Experience with scripting and automating of changes, ideally working within agile principles and frameworks.
  • Proficiency in network security best practices and tools, including AlgoSec Firewall Analyser.
  • Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools, including Thousand Eyes and SolarWinds.
  • You will be an excellent communicator with effective influencing skills essential to function effectively in a federated environment and liaise effectively with global colleagues and team members at all levels.
  • You will have a high level of organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to plan and manage multiple tasks simultaneously across the team.

  • Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI, APIC)
  • Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
  • Cisco Meraki Wireless
  • VMWare VeloCloud SD-WAN

Experience & Qualifications

  • Azure Network Engineer Associate and/or Azure Solutions Architect Expert are highly desirable.
  • CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are a strong plus.
  • ITIL v3 foundation or higher.
  • You have 5+ years’ experience of internetworking within a global enterprise organization (3000+ users), with a strong focus on Azure Cloud environments.
  • You have proven experience in designing, implementing, and supporting Azure network solutions.
  • You have considerable first-hand experience of providing IT support/service in a pressurized environment, ideally with Financial Services or Insurance.
  • You will have a high level of knowledge of industry changes, updates, and technical developments related to IT networking, to enable proactive response to business requirements.
