GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Code enforcement officers have the responsibility for investigation and enforcement of potential violations of Rogers City Code as outlined in Rogers City Code #2-121
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED
Basic: Contact Management, Database, Word Processing/Typing

Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Investigate citizen complaints, and all related issues concerning neighborhood services/code enforcement. This duty is performed daily, about 70% of the time.
- Issue warning and/or citations on violations of city ordinances pertaining to neighborhood services/code enforcement. This duty is performed daily, about 5% of the time.
- Inspect businesses for business licenses and sign ordinance compliance. This duty is performed as needed, about 1% of the time.
- Testify in court cases. This duty is performed as needed, about 1% of the time.
- Deal tactfully with the general public to resolve issues relating to code violations. This duty is performed daily, about 5% of the time.
- Responsible for all correspondence and reports dealing with neighborhood services/code enforcement cases. This duty is performed daily, about 10% of the time.
- Maintain code enforcement vehicle. This duty is performed daily, about 2% of the time.
- Perform any and all other related duties as required or assigned by the chain of command. This duty is performed as needed, about 1% of the time.
- Proactive investigation of all observed code violations. This duty is performed daily, about 5% of the time.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
