Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
Primary purpose of this position is to abstract charges and related diagnoses from radiation oncology records to ensure services billed are consistent with the record and ensure compliance with all clinical billing regulations. Works with faculty and staff to ensure accurate documentation of billable services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Must be willing to obtain ROCC within 2 years of hire date.
- Experience with billing and authorizations in the outpatient setting
Preferred:
- CPC certified preferred
SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
- Day Shift, 8am 4:30 pm each day

Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Obtains authorization for radiation treatments utilizing processes outlines by department leadership
- Abstracts pertinent information from patient records in Radiation Oncology. Verifies accuracy of MD captured codes primary/secondary diagnoses and procedures with CPT, ICD10 coding conventions
- Reconciles daily schedule with completed appointments and captured charges
- Addresses all open appointments
- Exports or reviews professional and technical charges in ARIA in timeframe established by department leadership manner
- Identifies bundled charges and bills appropriately according to compliance guidelines, federal regulations and CCI coding initiatives
- Completes and documents full charge review check at end of treatment and rectifies any errors
- Provides documentation to support case denial appeals
- Researches, analyzes and responds to inquiries regarding compliance, inappropriate coding, denials and billable services. Brings identified concerns to supervisor for resolution
- Provides regular communication and feedback regarding any billing issues to the billing supervisor and other management staff
- Educate department technical staff on charges capture as it pertains to their area (therapy/ dosi/ md/ physics/ nursing)
