Description:

We are in search of a proficient Coder / Specialist to be a part of our team in Hartford, Connecticut. This role offers a long term contract employment opportunity. As a Coder / Specialist, you will be tasked with the responsibility of analyzing medical records, interpreting documentation, and assigning appropriate codes. This role also involves collaboration with different departments and providing training and mentoring to new coders.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze medical records using the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS)
  • Assign proper International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) diagnoses and ICD-10-Procedural Classification System (PCS) operative procedure codes using designated software
  • Review Diagnosis-related group (DRG) assigned to each record, analyze DRG groupings, and observe for appropriate DRG assignment
  • Handle more complex cases including but not limited to, medical, surgical, behavioral health and Inpatient (IP) Rehabilitation
  • Adhere to all department coding procedures, policies, guidelines, and quality standards
  • Collaborate with clinical documentation specialists (CDS) to determine appropriate DRG assignment for compliance and reimbursement purposes
  • Collaborate with Quality Management and other departments as required
  • Seek clarification from attending physician in cases where documentation is absent, ambiguous, or contradictory
  • Assist in training and mentoring new coders to understand internal coding policies and procedures
  • Resolve issues on a daily basis that have been assigned for review of edits, etc.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in coding, with a particular focus on ICD-10
  • Proficient in English language for effective communication and documentation
  • Excellent communication skills to facilitate clear and concise information exchange
  • Demonstrated experience in handling materials and maintaining quality standards
  • Proficient in documentation and review procedures to ensure compliance with policies
  • Experience in project management and the ability to diagnose problems effectively
  • Familiarity with medical coverage, billing, and reimbursements processes
  • Experience in clinical trial operations and medical records management
  • Proficiency in KPI reporting and issue resolution
  • Ability to interpret language in a clinical context
  • Demonstrated experience in training staff on new procedures and policies
  • Familiarity with “About Time” software or similar time management tools
  • Demonstrated surgical skills would be advantageous
  • Ability to adhere to and maintain quality standards in all tasks.
