The Commercial Controller is tasked with commercially supporting new business, and renewals of key accounts for the UK&I business, although you will have a primary BU focus. You need to support the building of pricing models and analysis of sensitivities, in order to ensure those risks and sensitivities are fully understood ahead of Customer pricing submissions.
For New business and the renewal of key accounts, you will coordinate establishing the negotiation strategy, building the commercial proposal working with the pursuit team, proving robust challenge to the assumptions/costing and supporting the BCA process. You will also support the contract lifecycle process and ensure the business follows the process.
This role will work closely with Finance, Legal, Business Development and Account Management teams to support early customer engagement around commercial opportunities, identifying commercial risk and options to address and ensuring adherence to Global governance processes.
The role will often be customer facing and will play a major role in shaping, articulating and delivering renewals and new customer contracts balancing risk and reward. In addition, specific projects relating to commercial improvement initiatives, and examination of existing contract terms to ensure best use of negotiated terms is being realised.

  • Early engagement on new business and key account renewals to ensure identification of commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Support the standardisation of pricing models and setting of pricing strategy by product to maximise value
  • Become subject matter expert on commercial modelling of the impact of commercial clauses on profitability
  • Cooperation with Business Development, Account Development teams, Investment Controlling, Legal, and other functions involved in the sales process or product development (e.g. Corporate Finance, M&A, Operations, IT, HR, Finance, Real Estate, etc.) to continuously improve the commercial value proposition and to ensure early engagement with stakeholders
  • Support of bid/no bid approach to bids, including understanding and governance over costing of Salesforce and contract lifecycle data
  • Shaping and leadership of key commercial improvement projects
  • Support the development of a pricing strategy across products
  • Support the development of a standardised pricing approach
  • Support the early identity of commercial challenges and establishing solutions to overcome
  • Working with incomplete data to produce pricing options, understanding how we protect ourselves during the bid process from inaccurate and incomplete data (sensitivity review)

  • Experience in either: Commercial/Investment Controlling, Business Management / Operations, Financial Accounting/Auditing, legal experience
  • Networking within other major companies / accounting community
  • Strong financial, operational and commercial knowledge
  • Strong experience of dealing with incomplete information in bid scenarios
  • Ability to think creatively to meet mutually acceptable commercial positions
  • Previous experience in such commercial modelling roles
  • Degree level or or qualification
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders with DHL and customers
