Description:

What can you expect?
Our UK Contentious Tax team has more qualified lawyers practising exclusively in the field than any other in the UK and, collectively, decades of experience of all types of tax disputes across the whole of the tax system.
Containing both solicitors and barristers, the team is able to advise on all contentious matters that pertain to tax. The team’s work mix includes disclosures to HMRC, civil enquiries, criminal enquiries, litigation before the tax tribunals, professional negligence actions and restitution, rectification and rescission claims before the High Court and non-UK courts.
We are a friendly and open team that operates at a high level, whilst retaining a healthy respect for work-life balance. We are looking for an experienced, highly capable, and flexibly minded candidate who will be able to work with all of our partners. Our team has fee earners in both Fieldfisher’s London and Birmingham offices and works seamlessly between the two locations.
Long recognised in both Chambers and Legal 500, the Fieldfisher Contentious Tax team was shortlisted for Litigation Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards 2022.
Responsibilities
The role will involve working across our busy and profitable contentious tax practice but we expect the majority of time to be spent on tax professional negligence claims.

The work mix will also likely include working on:-

  • Related commercial disputes;
  • Rescission and rectification claims;
  • Judicial Review of HMRC actions; and
  • Part 8 claims against HMRC.

Experience and Knowledge

  • UK qualified lawyer between 6-8 years’ PQE with understanding and experience of tax professional negligence claims.
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • An ability to build relationships with clients, witnesses, counsel and experts;
  • Enthusiastic team player with a commitment to quality and client care;
  • Excellent case management skills; and
  • Strong academics.

Responsibilities:

Fieldfisher is a European law firm with market-leading practices in many of the world’s most dynamic sectors. We are an exciting, forward-thinking organisation with a particular focus on technology, financial services, energy & natural resources, and life sciences.
We are a law firm built around people with all their diversity and we strike a healthy balance between legal excellence and a down-to-earth practical approach to our clients’ needs. We believe The Future is Human, so we choose a collaborative approach with an intense focus on the end-user and consider carefully how to shape our services to add the most value to our clients
