1. KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of sustainability concepts and challenges
  • Knowledge of sustainability leadership and change management practices, methods and competencies.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the current media and social media landscape, including web and video development.
  • Familiarity with working in an academic environment, collaborating with faculty.
  • Understanding and support of the Jesuit tradition of education and a commitment to the fundamental values of service to others, community, and diversity as well as a commitment to and demonstration of skills, knowledge, and awareness to serve the unique needs of the diverse campus community of Santa Clara University.

2. SKILLS

  • Strong organization and project management skills - experience with content management platforms
  • Strong attention to detail (writing / copy editing / design background)
  • Direct experience in sustainability, community based social marketing, institutional change, community engagement campaigns.
  • Experience growing brand reputation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience leading in-person training programs. Strong public speaking, presentation, facilitation, and meeting management skills.
  • Skill in working cooperatively as part of a customer service team.
  • Skill in using a computer, telephone system, and standard office equipment to enter, modify and retrieve data.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite platforms (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides, Gmail)
  • Skill in facilitating group decision making and problem solving as well as building collaborative relationships and shared ownership of goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in project, program, and/or organizational management

3. ABILITIES

  • Ability to effectively identify, analyze, prioritize, develop, and implement a wide range of sustainability programs.

4. EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study required.
  • Master’s Degree and/or additional certifications preferred.

5. YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years of related experience in a communication program where sustainability was a majority of the position’s focus.
  • At least one year of experience in metrics-based impact storytelling, graphic design, community-based social marketing, leading training programs, and/or community engagement campaigns.
  • Previous experience in a college or university setting is preferred.

Responsibilities:

A. POSITION PURPOSE

The Communications and Reporting Program Manager is responsible for catalyzing the Santa Clara University campus and community to advance progress toward achieving our sustainability goals as outlined in SCU’s Strategic Plan: Impact 2030 and SCU’s Sustainability Strategic Action Plan: Leading Through Laudato Si’. This position develops, leads, and implements a variety of complex efforts to produce impact-oriented storytelling to encourage and celebrate participation among students, faculty, staff, alumni, etc.
This position develops, manages, and evaluates efforts to tell SCU’s sustainability story, through our online and print materials, photography, and videography, and annual reporting. This position works collaboratively with the Center for Sustainability team to report SCU’s sustainability indicators across a wide spectrum (academics, engagement, operations, planning and administration). Another major focus of this position is strategic change management - coordinating facilitation and implementation of SCU’s sustainability strategic action plan.
This individual collaborates with a diverse array of divisions, departments, and student groups across the university to advance university-wide sustainability projects and goals. This position develops creative solutions to novel cross-organizational and complex problems in creative and effective ways.
The Center for Sustainability facilitates change management for sustainability at SCU by bridging academics, operations, and campus life to empower students, faculty, & staff to build a more humane, just, and sustainable world.
This position reports to the Director of the Center for Sustainability.
This position is 0.75 FTE permanent and 0.25 FTE fixed-term for 1 year with the potential to renew.

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage the Center for Sustainability’s communications strategy and implementation. (50%)
  2. Manage SCU’s Sustainability Strategic Action Plan (Leading Through Laudato Si’) Reporting. (25%)
  3. Manage campus outreach and behavior change campaigns (25%)
  4. Supervise, mentor, and build a learning-oriented team.
  5. Support Center for Sustainability and University Operations goals.
  6. Other duties, as assigned.
