Responsibilities:

Library and Learning Resources (L&LR) are seeking to appoint a Communications and Community Outreach Officer within the newly formed Library Engagement team to coordinate communications and develop our public and community engagement offer. The post holder will work across L&LR and BCU to develop a strategic vision for all library communications and engagement.
The Library Engagement team plays a critical role in connecting Library and Learning Resources (L&LR) with both the university community and external stakeholders. By using management information and data from other teams, they drive discussions that highlight L&LR’s vital contributions to learning, teaching, and research at Birmingham City University (BCU).

The individual will be expected to:

  • Coordinate all internal and external communications that aligns with the strategic goals of the library, ensuring that communication content is current and relevant and resonates with both internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders including local schools, further education (FE) institutions, libraries, and museums to support the development of outreach and public engagement activities, ensuring a broad and impactful reach.
  • Be instrumental in articulating a strategic vision for library communications and engagement activities, aligning efforts with the broader mission and vision of L&LR and BCU and managing communication channels to effectively disseminate information.

The Engagement Team includes Library Business Partners, Research Engagement Librarian, Student Engagement Officer and the Communications and Community Outreach Officer. This model encourages deeper collaboration with academics and various departments it aims to foster institutional change and ensure L&LR becomes more integrated into and relevant to the university’s academic and civic missions.
