Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy (DoP), the Communications & Donor Engagement Specialist is an integral member of the development team. This position is primarily responsible for developing and implementing strategies to effectively communicate the mission and impact of the organization to various stakeholders, as well as cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors to ensure ongoing support. This role will play a key role in expanding the organization’s reach and impact through fundraising efforts and effective communication. This includes planning and coordinating content for all communication platforms and supporting the execution of all marketing materials.
Key to the success of this position is the ability to develop communications strategies to enhance the brand of Merrymount, target marketing opportunities to meet strategic goals, build relationships, as well as prioritize donor engagement. As a skilled writer and editor, the Specialist will research and implement innovative techniques to create professional, topic-specific content that supports Merrymount’s mission and fundraising efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

· Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management or an area directly applicable to social services and/or fund development.
· 2+ years of experience in communications, fundraising, or donor relations in a nonprofit setting.
· Strong skills in persuasive writing, storytelling, and editing across multiple mediums (print, digital, email, etc.), with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences (donors, employees, external communities).
· Understanding of digital communications strategies, best practices and emerging trends.
· Computer skills with the ability to use software such as Adobe Creative Suite and web-based content management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Constant Contact, etc),
· Demonstrated success in implementation of broad-based integrated marketing and communications strategies focused on fundraising and reputation-building
· Proven experience with donor databases (including Raiser’s Edge NXT) and CRM systems, with expertise in managing donor data, tracking engagement, and applying stewardship best practices.
· Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage projects efficiently under changing deadlines.
· Experience managing social media platforms, email campaigns, website content, and writing grant applications and donor reports.
· Proven track record of successfully cultivating donor relationships and securing gifts.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, while maintaining positive relationships with donors and stakeholders. Demonstrate excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
· Passion for the organization’s mission and a commitment to ethical fundraising practices.
· Occasionally required to work evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the development team and Merrymount.
· Bilingualism (English & French) is an assett.
