Description:

We are the University of Cumbria, a place where people are at the heart of all we do, where enriching the lives of our students, staff and the communities we serve means we make a difference that really matters.
Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets; People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.
Our university is entering a new era, developing a transformational new campus in Barrow. Due to open in 2025, the new campus will be located within the Barrow Learning Quarter, part of a borough-wide programme of seven innovative projects, #BrilliantBarrow, that will transform the area and ensure it thrives as a great place to live, work and visit.
Barrow-in-Furness is home to a nationally significant advanced manufacturing cluster, with our partner, BAE Systems, at its heart. Our innovative courses will allow for a joined-up approach between industry and education, bringing the leading-edge skills required to design, build and deliver complex manufacturing and computer science products. Creating a full university presence in Barrow that attracts and retains talented graduates with high-level skills is vital for the area that is performing well economically and set to expand further in areas such as advanced manufacturing, computing, education and health.
An exciting and challenging opportunity has therefore arisen for an ambitious and results-orientated communications and engagement officer within the university’s corporate communications team with a focus on our Barrow development. You will be responsible for the coordination, promotion and successful delivery of high quality, customer-focused communications and events activity which will raise the profile and reputation of presence in Barrow amongst target audiences, forge beneficial relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and help build our brand locally, regionally and nationally.
At a time to help shape the delivery and success of this unique development, the communications and engagement officer will bring creativity and flair to the coordination and delivery of the project’s PR, communications and events delivery.
This post would suit someone who is self-motivated, focussed, and who enjoys working in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. Some flexibility in working hours will be required, as the post holder will attend events which may occur at evenings or weekends.
This role will be based in Barrow with an expectation of travel to other campuses and locations as required.
