THIS IS AN OPEN-ENDED CONTRACT, SUBJECT TO FUNDING

The Sociology Department has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and professional Communications and Events Officer to undertake primary responsibility for day-to-day running of events, communications and digital engagement across the department.
The post holder will take the lead role in planning and organising the department’s varied public events programme, including attending events to provide on-going support. They will also be responsible for organising and overseeing large student events. They will establish and sustain contact with student and alumni groups as well as relevant research networks.
The post holder will act as the first point of contact within the department for the above areas and will be expected to take a proactive approach to monitoring the latest web and social media technologies to keep the Sociology department’s communications relevant and up to date.
The post holder will be encouraged to break new ground in communications and digital engagement, including the imaginative use of text, image and multimedia, public events, event amplification and dissemination through social media. The post holder will develop and maintain other departmental promotional and communications channels, such as marketing materials and social media channels.
You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and have demonstrable administrative and communications experience, experience of managing events. You should have excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook and experience of using social media tools in a professional context. Experience of working in a higher education environment and of using non-standard software for specific purposes, or a demonstrable ability to learn the use of new software easily, is desirable.
Please note that this role requires evening work to attend and run departmental events, predominantly during term time.
