Job Title: Communications and Liaison Lead, NCIME
Location: Remote – Open to anywhere in Canada.
Department: Operations
Reports To: CEO
Starting Salary Range: $88,000 - $94,000

JOB SUMMARY:

As a key member of the NCIME Operations team, the Communications and Liaison Lead will work closely with the NCIME Elders and Knowledge Keepers Circle, Academic Advisory Council and work interchangeably with the CEO to support and/or lead community engagement while also overseeing the NCIME’s communication plan. Reporting to the CEO, the incumbent is responsible for executing and monitoring company communication strategies, drafting quarterly newsletters, email and social media campaigns. The Communications and Liaison Lead is also responsible for tracking and reporting analytics for campaigns to determine the most effective strategies for disseminating NCIME information, news and events.

Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert advice to the NCIME Team to support our commitment to the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Peoples engagement;
  • Build strong and meaningful relationships to support the mandate of NCIME and the outputs of the Academic Advisory Council;
  • Inform, support and/or lead pursuits as it relates to the project’s Stakeholder Engagement Plan;
  • Support and/or lead engagement with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit stakeholders and organizations;
  • Empower people and stakeholder organizations to work collaboratively within NCIME Communities of Practice;
  • Establish a positive and consistent message for all community involvement;
  • Engage stakeholders to build collaborations/partnerships to enhance the success and impact of the project;
  • Serve as lead for Elders and Knowledge Keepers Circle;
  • Serve as the lead for student/trainee engagement;
  • Respond to project related inquiries content/education;
  • Attend meetings by videoconference or in-person as required;
  • Present on behalf of the NCIME when requested to do so;
  • Communicate and report project updates to stakeholders, collaborators;
  • Assist CEO as a liaison with the core partnering organizations, consultants and with stakeholders;
  • Facilitate knowledge translation meetings with collective committees;
  • Keep informed on issues with medical education that impact First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples and communities;
  • Write and distribute corporate communication materials: quarterly newsletters, email campaigns, website news section, and social media campaigns;
  • Monitor and execute NCIME Communication Plan;
  • Monitor and respond to emails in the NCIME Communications inbox;
  • Maintain NCIME social media accounts: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn;
  • Maintain and update the NCIME website;
  • Handle media inquiries;
  • Develop future NCIME Communication Plans to increase stakeholder engagement and grow the NCIME brand;
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices;
  • Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies;
  • Maintain NCIME communications and digital media archive;
  • Advise the CEO on publicity activities;
  • Monitor and analyze the NCIME brand reputation, making recommendations to improve when necessary;
  • Organize and maintain media contact list;
  • As needed, manage, plan/coordinate media events and participate in press conferences;
  • As needed, perform outreach to press outlets, magazines, influencers and build strategic partnerships;
  • Willing to travel occasionally and work flexible hours to meet deadlines, as required; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need to be successful in the role (essential qualifications):

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous health in Canada which includes understanding impacts of colonization, racism, social determinants, legislation and policies on the health of Indigenous Peoples;
  • Strong sense of Indigenous rights, justice, equity and accountability;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships in a team setting and build collaborative cross-functional relationships;
  • A post-secondary education in communications, marketing, journalism, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • 4+ years’ experience in a communications or marketing role and experience in Indigenous health;
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse Elders and Knowledge Keepers;
  • Extensive experience working with Indigenous communities, and established relationships with local and national organizations and partners serving Indigenous communities;
  • Tangible and demonstrated connection with your Indigenous community;
  • Experience in planning, organizing and executing projects;
  • Experience in overseeing the deployment and coordination of large communications projects involving multiple partners and perspectives is an asset;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and ambiguity; ability to easily adapt quickly to changing priorities;
  • Ability to develop and build strong relationships both internally and externally; ability to bring people together, develop skills and inspire teamwork;
  • Ability to foster relationships with diverse communities and partners and to build consensus between people with differing viewpoints;
  • Experience in providing advice and support to senior management;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams);
  • Familiar with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite and Canva and capable of creating visually compelling presentations;
  • Knowledge of Hootsuite or similar program;
  • Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines;
  • An analytical mind and ability to think critically;
  • Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Knowledge of email marketing software such as Envoke or a similar program;
  • Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics and best practices

While fulfilling job responsibilities, this role requires flexibility to work in different environments, including a remote home office setup, occasional travel, and participation in in-person meetings. Due to these demands, the employee will typically engage in the following activities:

  • Extended periods of sitting, often at a computer workstation.
  • Flexibility in work hours, including the potential for occasional overtime, to meet project deadlines, especially when coordinating with different time zones or during travel
