The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) is the service system manager for Child Care and Early Years Programs, Community Housing and Homelessness Prevention Initiatives, and manages the delivery of Ontario Works for the District of Thunder Bay. POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Communications Assistant provides confidential administrative support to both the communications team and the CEO. In addition, the Communications Assistant assists in maintaining the TBDSSAB’s website, social media platforms and general Internet presence through the planning, creation, and execution of social media posts and web content.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

· Certificate in Communications or a related field.
· A minimum of one year of related experience including communications; website design and updates; social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.); content management systems and digital marketing.
· Equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

· Advanced skill level with current word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
· Intermediate level in keyboarding speed.
· Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines.
· Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
· Excellent project/time management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in managing and updating TBDSSAB’s social media channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms.
  2. Assists with Engagement Events
  3. Generates content that promotes user interaction, increases user presence on TBDSSAB sites, and encourages user engagement and participation.
  4. Uses timelines and scheduled content to create a consistent stream of new content for user interaction while analyzing, managing, and altering schedules where necessary to optimize traffic and leads.
  5. Assists staff with TBDSSAB corporate image, including flyers, mailers, brochures, banners, promotional items, business cards, and email signatures.
  6. Assists in preparing and sending out communication materials, as well as other administrative duties.
  7. Assists with the intake, internal distribution and tracking of complaints as part of the communication department.
  8. Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for process improvements.
  9. Assists the CEO Executive Assistant as required
  10. Attends to the CEO’s calendar, scheduling meetings and arranging travel as needed
  11. Performs such other related duties as may be required.
