Position Summary:
Reporting to the Communications Officer, the Communications Associate will support the implementation of McGill University’s Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences’s communications plan.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Assist in carrying out the internal and external communications for the Faculty.
2. Liaise with Faculty members, gather content, write, edit, and prepare the Faculty newsletter.
3. Maintain and update the Faculty’s website regarding news and current events in a timely manner.
4. Administrating and produce content for the Faculty’s social media accounts. Create various documents, visuals, and reports.
5. Undertake video and photography tasks as requested by the Communications Officer.
6. Draft messages, articles and presentations as requested by the Communications Officer.
7. When necessary, liaise with internal and external partners (other McGill Faculties and units, public, and professional orders).
8. Work with the Faculty’s Advancement Unit on various communication tools including funding proposals, marketing material and gift announcements, and assist at events.
9. Work with the Communications Officer to increase the Faculty’s media coverage.
Other Qualifying Skills And / Or Abilities:
1. 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position.
2. Undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, English Literature, or a related field.
3. Experience creating and administering content for websites, newsletters, and social media.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Canva.
5. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) and Pictory is an asset.
6. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, administer and prioritize multiple priorities. Strong time management and organizational skills.
7. Must be customer-service oriented.
8. Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. Experience in higher education is an asset.
9. Experience with Drupal and understanding of HTML is an asset.
10. Bilingualism: English and French spoken and written –with the ability to adapt writing style for different audiences.
