Job Description
CAMH Education and 9-8-8 are seeking a skilled professional editor for a full time, contract (1 year) position. CAMH Education is a leader in delivering mental health education to health care professionals, patients, families, and the general public. 9-8-8 is Canada’s only national, bilingual, suicide specific helpline.
Reporting to the Manager, Patient and Family Education, the editor contributes to the editing and proofreading of 9-8-8 educational and clinical practice materials, with a large focus on the development of continuing professional education courses (i.e. e-learnings and simulations), with some support for editing professional guidelines and resources, quarterly and annual reports, standard operating procedures, training and education related communications, and other materials for health professionals and crisis responders. The main focus of the editor’s role will be to edit 9-8-8 education materials but there will also be editorial responsibilities to the larger CAMH education department. The editor will perform a range of editorial tasks for written materials targeting a range of audiences, primarily focusing on health professionals and crisis responders. The editor will provide substantive and copy-editing, proofreading, plain language editing and project management. The editor will work closely with the 9-8-8 and CAMH education teams, including a multi-disciplinary team of learning management system designers, education specialists, advanced practice leaders, educators, subject matter experts, lived and living experience experts, and responders from communities across Canada. The incumbent will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 1025 Queen Street West.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree, preferably in publishing, science writing, journalism, or English literature from an accredited academic institution, along with three years of experience as an editor, preferably including on-line experience. Experience in writing and editing addiction, mental health or other health-related material is a definite asset. The successful candidate will also possess excellent research and fact-checking experience and skills. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of online publishing is required. Sound judgment, professionalism and communications skills are necessary, as is an ability to work towards strict deadlines. Bilingualism (English / French) is considered an asset.
