Terms of Reference
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement under the Division of Resilience and Solutions at UNHCR Copenhagen.
Established in December 1950, UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for asylum seekers, refugees, returnees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. UNHCR currently operates in over 130 countries, using its long expertise to protect and care for millions.

Organizational context
The Joint Data Center is a collaboration between two multilateral institutions – the World Bank and UNHCR – joining efforts and expertise towards improving the quality and quantity of data for evidence-based policy decisions and responses to global forced displacement crises. The collaboration between the World Bank and the UNHCR builds on their on-going joint initiatives on forced displacement including analytical work and microdata collection.
The mission of the Center is to enhance the ability of stakeholders to make timely and evidence-informed decisions that can improve the lives of affected people. The Joint Data Center leverages partnerships and innovation in its focus on the collection, analysis, dissemination and use of primary microdata that enables policymaking, programming and research. This includes demographic and socioeconomic data, including on income, skills, education, health, and economic activity on refugees, internally displaced persons, stateless people, returnees, asylum seekers and host populations.
The position
The ideal candidate for this role is someone who understands data, is a natural communicator and has an interest in refugees or development. The person in this role will be responsible for ensuring that JDC social media channels are populated with content that is based on JDC research and data. It is critical that the person in this role can meet deadlines and multiple tasks. As part of a small team, they also need to be flexible in order to adapt to the varying needs of the unit.

- Editing and proof-reading technical documents covering data and economics
- Updating the Literature Review Database
- Supporting team members in the drafting and editing of social media content, presentations and web content
- Collaborating with team members to prepare and execute events, internal and external meetings
- Other tasks as needed
Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
Desirable qualifications and skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree equivalent or higher in a subject such as Economics, Political Sciences, International Studies, Public Policy, Communications, Marketing or similar
- Have a demonstrated interest in forced displacement issues and/or experience working in this area
- Knowledge of social media tools and analytics
- Display full command of written and oral English, including drafting skills.
- Experience with Wordpress CMS
- Be able to work well independently as well as in an intercultural team; and
- Be available to work full time (40 hours per week) throughout the duration of the internship.
Conditions
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8.30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the JDC team at UN City, Copenhagen, Denmark.
For non-EU candidates, D-visa needs to be obtained before traveling to Denmark which takes 4 to 6 weeks. The office will provide assistance on visa-related issues.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
