Hybrid - London Waterloo
At Currys we’re united by one passion: to help everyone enjoy amazing technology. As the UK’s best-known retailer of tech, we’re proud of the service our customers receive – and it’s all down to our team of 25,000 caring and committed colleagues. Working as one team, we learn and grow together, celebrating the big and small moments that make every day amazing.
We want to build enduring relationships and engage purposefully with agreed external stakeholder groups so they are inspired by how we are creating value for colleagues, customers, society and the planet.
Communications that connect is at the heart of this. We’re always thinking about how we harness the impact of great communications to connect with all of our internal and external audiences and build a community of advocates. We’re proud of the way in which we communicate and we’re now looking to do more, to go further.
And a bit about you..
You’ll be responsible for all aspects of External Corporate Communications including media and digital engagement, communications planning, and issues and reputation management.
You’re passionate about sustainability and the circular economy and skilled at bringing strategy and vision to life across a multitude of external stakeholders. Mindset is essential here. You’re a modern communicator, across the key trends and know the power that comes from bringing great communicators together.

Requirements:

  • Expertise in developing and implementing external communications plans aligning internal and external communications with business strategy.
  • Outstanding media relations skills and relationships, with experience engaging journalists on a regular basis.
  • Skilled at using social media and creating engaging digital content.
  • A self-starter with proven ability to think strategically, engage proactively and take initiative.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Self-assured and adept at providing counsel to senior leaders in the business.
  • Knowledge of and passion for sustainability and advancing the circular economy.
  • Proven communications experience within a large organisation or leading communications agency. Retail, Consumer or Tech sector experience desirable but not essential.
  • Degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 up to 8 years’ corporate communications experience

Responsibilities:

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Building our external reputation by digging out these amazing nuggets that we want to shout loud and proud about because they will build belief and confidence that we’re delivering against our vision and our strategy. That will include the areas where we are truly leading the way and differentiated e.g. our successful ‘Long Live Your Tech’ campaign, our omnichannel approach, and our Capable and Capable and Committed Colleagues.
  • You’ll do that through a smart campaign-based approach to integrated communications, using your experience in digital and traditional comms coupled with a nose for a good story to connect with real impact.
  • You’ll live our values - ‘We put customers first’, ‘We win together’, and ‘We own it’ - setting us all up for success. We want you to help us be famous for the things we want to be famous for!
  • To do this you’ll be confident building relationships and engaging purposefully with the media and other external stakeholder groups so they are inspired by how we are creating value for colleagues, customers, society and the planet
  • This is a broad and exciting role. You’ll work with all parts of the business to promote and defend priority areas including ESG, Services, iD Mobile, Currys Connected Media, through the media, conferences, awards, as well as owned and shared media opportunities.
  • As a FTSE 250 company you will also support Group and financial calendar external communications activity.
  • When required you’ll be able to fiercely guard our reputation; identifying, anticipating, and handling corporate and consumer media issues.
  • And you’ll be expert at improving our digital platforms and social media channels
