Who are we?
We are the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) - the UK’s leading institution for integrated coastal and deep ocean research. The ocean has the potential to provide the solutions to so many of the social, economic and environmental challenges we face worldwide. To truly harness the value of the ocean, we put ocean research, science and discovery at the heart of our culture.
Join us in shaping the future of oceanographic research and contribute your unique perspective to our organisation.
About the role
There is an imperative to measure the ocean if we are to chart a sustainable future on this planet, and this demands a modern, versatile and resilient research infrastructure. The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Future Marine Research Infrastructure (FMRI) programme (www.fmri.ac.uk) aims to deliver a transformative renewal of NERC’s research infrastructure so that marine science can serve society’s need to observe, understand and predict changes in the local, regional and global environment.
Hosted by the NOC, the Communications Manager will be an important member of the FMRI Programme Office helping to deliver NERC’s future marine research infrastructure. We will ask you to develop, own and deliver a forward-looking communications plan that can drive the realisation of FMRI’s vision for a world class research infrastructure. You will be expected to lead the mapping of stakeholders, using this information to shape messaging, identify and manage the optimal channels for communications, and prepare compelling and accessible content.
About you
We are looking for someone who can integrate the vision for FMRI with the preferences of stakeholders to develop clear and compelling messaging for the programme. Someone who can craft a persuasive narrative that builds momentum and support for the transformation. Someone who can articulate the value of what we are seeking to accomplish.
You will be an experienced communications professional who is able to work collaboratively with the leadership team, programme office and other stakeholders to prepare inspiring content that can support the FMRI transformation. You will be able to think tactically, demonstrating leadership and ownership for a communications plan that can drive and enable change.
