Join our Living Places team as a Communications Officer on the East Sussex Contract and you’ll be part of our legacy!
As Communications officer you will be acting as one of the main contact point for stakeholders and make sure East Sussex Highways produce high quality, consistent and effective communications about our works.
What you’ll be doing

As a Communications Officer, you will be the champion for all aspects of communications, key accountabilities will include:

  • Creating bespoke video content for us on various Balfour Beatty and East Sussex Highways channels, including social media.
  • Social Media: Monitoring our social media platforms to manage public enquiries and signpost individual to formal reporting channels. Using the platform to positively promote East Sussex Highways, ESCC and Balfour Beatty.
  • Planning: Development and implementation of communication plans in relation to major highway schemes, reactive, cyclical, and emergency works across the county.
  • Time Management and interpersonal skills: Management of the delivery ofconsultations and communications to tight timescales liaising with clients to meet their expectation and agreed deadlines.
  • Copy writing: Interpretation of complex and sensitive proposals, communicating these in a non-technical, considered way for the public, business community and key stakeholders. Drafting and getting sign off from all internal stakeholders for websites, letters, emails, social media, exhibitions, public notices, scheme boards, flyers, reports, and presentations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Responsible for engagement of all service stakeholders and conveying key operational matters. Support regular stakeholder meetings and act promptly on any issues raised.
  • Consultation: Organising and creating the marketing materials for public andstakeholder consultation events across the county. Supporting the managementteam during consultations both virtually and in person. Providing feedback from the events to the management team to review.
  • Maintenance of the East Sussex Highways website for the public to report problems and find out more about our services

Who we’re looking for

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • You will have experience of creating video content for publication across a range of channels
  • This role requires a self-starter, who is motivated, organised and reliable with good interpersonal skills, strong writing ability and a customer centric approach
  • The ideal candidate has experience of delivering communications campaigns withgood copy writing skills. This should include stakeholder engagement experience,building a professional relationship with key clients, meeting expectations, delivering on promises, and keeping stakeholders informed and updated
  • You will be able to translate technical engineering drawings into easily understood concepts to inform members of the public

DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience of delivering highway scheme communications
  • Experience of working for a local authority
