Description:
Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Paisley, is currently looking to recruit a Communications Officer for a 4-6 month contract on a rate of £20.91/hour (PAYE). This role will be hybrid with 2 days in the office a week with one day being a Thursday.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification (e.g. NCTJ Journalism Diploma).
- Experience in communications / media / public relations or new media.
- Demonstrable online content creation experience.
- Communications, presentation and analytical skills with well-developed report writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects.
- Excellent overall ICT skills.
- Creative and innovative, able to exercise initiative and work well without close supervision.
- Flexible in approach with ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Confident and persuasive - comfortable working with managers from other departments and partners.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
- Previous relevant experience in local government or a similar diverse organisation.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of current policy issues and developments affecting local government and wider public sector environment.
- A working understanding of the principles of the Digital Experience Programme.
- Awareness and sensitivity to the public sector/partnership environment.
- A full driving licence.

Responsibilities:
- Working on projects and initiatives for a range of corporate communications functions including:
- Press and Media enquiries & liaison, including contribution to the provision of a 24/7 on call support.
- Planning and delivery of communications plans.
- Media and communications advice and support to members.
- Producing and managing a range of online content, including for the organisation’s social media channels and the website.
- Developing effective and favourable working relationships with media, developing and delivering effective communications plans and programmes that enhance the organisation’s reputation as a trusted voice
- Dealing with media enquiries and media relations, helping monitor the organisation’s reputation in the local and national media and among its stakeholders, helping to build trust and encouraging positive engagement
- Using data and insight to inform the most effective communications approach that in line with user needs, monitoring and evaluating results
- Identifying and developing a range of effective content, news and feature materials for a range of channels, including corporate, partner and service publications, campaigns and activities, local, national and specialist media to support the organisations and the Community Planning Partnerships agreed communications themes, key messages and to meet communications strategic priorities
- Create high quality digital and non-digital content for multiple audiences - including blogs, briefing notes, presentations, news releases, e-newsletters, videos and social media output, in line with the brand and its values
- Producing content that is accurate, timely, high-quality (based on insight and outputs of user testing, relevant to the audience, easily understood, optimised for search engines) and to style
- Assisting in the maintenance of up to date and effective website content ensuring compliance with the s overall strategic context and the principles of our Digital Experience Programme - ensuring web content is updated where required.
- You will ensure all plans and content are on-brand, creating a strong and positive reputation for the organisation among its stakeholders which helps to build trust and encourage engagement with key audiences.
- Working proactively with Community Planning partners, citizens, communities and others to maximise the effectiveness of joint public relations activities and campaigns and to ensure that as a whole benefits from an excellent and joined up communications approach
- Developing effective and positive working relationships with local community and business partners
- Contribute to the development of the organisations’ communications and marketing strategy
- Supporting the development and management of the corporate communications management information databases and adapting and providing relevant updates and developments on other corporate databases as required
