Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The Faculty of Medicine inspires and enables excellence in health care through its medical education and research programs, and by serving and engaging society. Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Communications Specialist will support the complex communications needs of the Faculty of Medicine and development and execution of internal and external communications. This position is responsible for the medical school’s online presence through various social media tools, and blogs. The position is also responsible for coordinating the Faculty of Medicine’s transition to a new web content management system.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field, plus A minimum of three years’ relevant communications experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Proven ability to effectively write for various audiences for different audiences, using various channels/formats a must (letters of support, news articles, social media, etc.).
- Experience with generating content within a post-secondary education, health care or government environment.
- Experience in developing and executing communications strategies and working effectively with internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of a wide variety of business objectives.Demonstrated ability to work independently with a proactive approach to communications
Responsibilities:
- Manage monthly “Dean’s Blog” to keep faculty, students, and staff informed of important events and achievements in the Faculty of Medicine.
- Actively manage the Faculty of Medicine’s social media accounts and write letters of support for various internal and external awards.
- Research, write, and develop content for Dal Med News, Dal News, and DalDocs (alumni magazine) to align with the Faculty of Medicine’s strategic plan.
- Lead the in-progress web content migration from Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) Classic to Touch UI, including when required, working with Faculty of Medicine stakeholders to redevelop and rewrite web content.
- Provide guidance and support to stakeholders on content strategy for Faculty of Medicine web properties (departments, divisions, units, etc.) as defined by the Director of Communications.
- Lead in the planning, organizing and promoting special events including public receptions, events/activities, meetings, ceremonies, and site visits, with support provided from Administrative Assistant.
