Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $44,200 - Midpoint: $55,300 (Salaried E6)
Department/Organization: 800110 - Student Life Communications
Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary: The Communications Specialist I writes and edits communications for a department, college, and/or division under general supervision. Develops and implements plans, activities, and tactics to support the goals of assigned areas. Coordinates the production of materials and resources through a variety of platforms, including digital and physical mediums.
Additional Department Summary: Works under immediate supervision on the divisional communications team to tell the story of Student Life. Interviews students, staff, and alumni and writing stories that showcase their successes, especially as they are influenced by the work of Student Life (for use on a variety of digital and print publications). Provides strategic recommendations for web content layout and works with departments to enhance their web presence through clear, concise and intentional web content. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and some journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) writing samples that display competence in storytelling and a strong understanding of English grammar.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of communications, public relations, web. Excellent written communication skills. Ability to work with others in a team environment. Excellent project management and time management skills to handle the volume and variety of projects at the pace each project requires. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. Ability to write for many audiences and communication channels. Demonstrated initiative and creativity in project planning and execution.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience writing feature stories. Experience with WordPress editor. Specialized skillset in one or more of the following areas: photography, videography, social media content creation, web design, graphic design or other creative media specialty.
