JOB DESCRIPTION
We’re looking for a Communications Support Officer who will be entirely focused on supporting our award-winning Greater Cambridge Shared Planning (GCSP) service. GCSP is the shared service between South Cambridgeshire District and Cambridge City councils operating in one of the UK’s most important economic areas, which is also a Government priority area for delivering new homes. The successful applicant will sit within the South Cambridgeshire District Council Communications team and work very closely with Communications colleagues at Cambridge City Council too.
One minute you’ll be working to help come up with campaigns that will cut through the social media noise. Later in the same day you could be liaising with external designers to help pull together eye-catching digital content. Then you could be tasked with ensuring important information is relayed internally to colleagues. Then it’ll be a case of prioritising some information gathering to help colleagues answer an urgent question from the local media. Interested in getting involved in all of this? Good.
You’ll need to provide support in all areas of PR and marketing, as well as internal comms. You’ll need to demonstrate excellent administrative support to contribute to internal and external communications for GCSP. Comms is often the first port of call for customers, so you’ll provide a professional, efficient, and courteous welcome as standard.
You’ll be keen to contribute ideas to current and future communications campaigns which all tie in with the priorities of GCSP. Although we aren’t often required to work during evenings or weekends, the successful candidate will demonstrate an acceptance that this can occasionally be necessary to help support the wider team to deal with breaking news stories or emergency planning issues.
The team works in the best place for the job in hand – but does come together in-person at our main office in person at least once a week. The successful candidate is expected to do this, to collaborate, share ideas and learn from each other.
Please note that this is a Politically Restricted post.
South Cambridgeshire District Council currently operates four-day week working arrangements. A four day‑ week is when full-time staff work one less day per week (four days instead of five) but still get paid the same salary. The idea is that we get 100% of our work done, in about 80% of the time, for 100% of the pay. The purpose is to deliver an excellent service to residents - whilst better supporting the health and wellbeing of our colleague. Read more about the four-day week at the Council..
