Community and Primary Care Research Group – Research Assistant (Internship)

at  Plymouth University

There is an opportunity for an internship within the Community and Primary Care Research Team, at the University of Plymouth. Candidates should be at MSc/PhD level (or have equivalent clinical experience), and currently be employed (or have prior work experience/have studied) in a clinical or academic setting.
The internship is with Dr Hannah Wheat and is funded through her current NIHR DEM COMM Fellowship. The internship is based within PenARC, one of 15 ARCs across England, part of an £135 million investment by the NIHR to improve the health and care of patients and the public. PenARC is a partnership of local providers of NHS services, local providers of care services, NHS commissioners, local authorities, the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and charities across Somerset, Devon and Cornwall (including the Isles of Scilly).

The internship will involve:

• working on a scoping review on methods used to assess quality of care for people with dementia and multiple long-term conditions and
• supporting an analysis of (pre-collected) audio-recorded data collection meetings, where people with dementia responded to standardised measure items.

There is also potential to support stakeholder engagement work on this topic area.
This is a full-time internship working 37 hours per week and is fixed term for a period of 10 weeks, due to funding, starting in November 2024. Part-time options (with longer contract length) can be explored.
Hybrid working can be discussed, but an ability to attend stakeholder events in the area and take part in face-to-face activities/work within the department is required.
You will have a prominent authorship position on journal manuscripts you contribute during the internship. There will also be opportunities for you to receive tailored training and receive career development guidance and support. You will gain experience of working in a supportive academic environment – with inclusion in department meetings, in-person talks and webinars. Opportunities for you to gain insight and receive guidance from other relevant academics within the department will also be provided.
