Role Details
For people who live with cancer, transportation to treatments can be a challenge. Through this role you will be providing information about this free program and other valuable services available to people in your community. For only 2 hours a week, you can make a difference.
Description

As a CCV you will be:

  • Connecting with local organizations and groups to promote WOH programs and volunteer opportunities.
  • Delivering promotion materials (pamphlets, postcards, posters, etc.) to as many as possible local organizations and businesses.
  • Attend local events and local organisations/clubs to promote the WOH program and volunteer driver opportunity by doing group presentations or setting up booth at various community fairs.

Why we need you
At the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), volunteers supporting outreach are vital because many everyday Canadians aren’t aware of the services and information available through CCS. Community Connectors are volunteers who represent CCS in each community, promoting our mission volunteer roles and programs we offer to the community. As a member of the Mission team, you’ll work in collaboration with the Mission staff and other volunteers to help ensure the diverse communities in BC interior and the island are aware of the programs and volunteer opportunities that CCS offers and how to become involved.

What we’re looking for

  • You enjoy public speaking and building and nurturing relationships in your local community.
  • You have knowledge of and are involved in your local community.
  • You have a strong personal or professional local network, would be optimal.
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Some experience with doing presentations to groups of people.
  • You are detail orientated and enjoy working as a team.
  • You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and are comfortable with online platforms.
  • You count on reliable access to transportation to attend meetings & outreach events.

Our Investment
As an organization we will provide you with training and support to prepare you for this role. You will be supported by the BC Volunteer Engagement Staff who will be providing ongoing support.
You will be part of the larger Wheels of Hope team, including over 1600 volunteer drivers and many staff who share your desire to help as many people as possible get to their treatments.
We will provide you with mentorship and coaching including professional development opportunities to grow and showcase your talents, especially as leader and networker.

Your commitment

  • We ask that you dedicate at minimum 2 hours weekly. Approximately 10 hours per month
  • Initiate and respond with regular and consistent communication between the BC Volunteer Engagement Staff.
  • As a volunteer, you are a representative and ambassador who promotes the mission and value of CCS.
  • We ask for a minimum one-year commitment.
  • Weekend and evening work can be expected, daytime availability an asset.
