Description:

Duties and Responsibilities Clinical To undertake Consultant led clinics and to provide support to more junior doctors. This includes integrated working with education and social services staff and the provision of paediatric advice as required In conjunction with colleagues to provide specialist paediatric assessment of children referred where there are concerns regarding neurodevelopmental problems or disability including those with social communication or developmental behaviour problems. To provide clinical assessment, investigation and management of children referred to the service, working with other members of the team to determine the most appropriate method of assessment and intervention. To take Consultant medical responsibility for children attending special school To provide clinical support, as appropriate, for clinicians providing Community Paediatric and Child Health Services including nursing and professional allied to medicine.
To be part of the multidisciplinary assessment and diagnosis process for children referred to the service, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and other clinical conditions including occasional attendance at relevant pathway and operational group meetings To be involved in provision of advice and outcome focused information for those who require Education Health and Care Plans To provide high quality caseload management including high quality case records, ensuring adherence to professional best practice. Partnerships To carry out responsibilities, as a consultant, for children with neurodevelopmental difficulties and to work in close co-operation with local authority staff and other clinical colleagues To promote close collaboration between community paediatrics, hospital paediatric services and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services To work in partnership with Education and Social Services colleagues to ensure child health needs are effectively met To occasionally attend multidisciplinary support pathways / panels for children with significant needs in order to provide a joined-up approach Audit Research and Professional Development To offer professional advice to the Clinical Director, Bridgewater Medical Director, Trust Board and partner agencies on areas of responsibility as required. To take part in service planning and service development in conjunction with the Clinical Director in Paediatrics, the Assistant Director and Clinical Manager for Child & Family Services, other Senior Clinicians and Managers to provide an efficient surveillance screening and prevention for children. To continue with his/her professional development and maintain good standing with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
To participate in identifying individual developmental needs through appraisal and professional development planning, including job planning. To take part in appraisal and job planning of junior medical staff when required by the Clinical Director To be involved in the clinical management and administration of the Community Paediatric service when required To take a lead role in implementation of national guidance and auditing with respect to a specialist area of interest and to compliment the development of the service To participate in own departmental audits and supervise junior staff in audit. To encourage appropriate research within the Service supported by the Trust. Training & Teaching To participate in the training of Nurses, Therapists, Education and Social Services staff and voluntary groups and other staff as appropriate.
To participate in medical and postgraduate training when required by the organisation To undertake safeguarding training at level 4, which will include the training required at levels 1-3. Accountability and Review The Consultant Community Paediatrician is responsible to the Clinical Director in Community Paediatrics and accountable to Bridgewater Medical Director and ultimately to the Trust Board. Appropriate job plans will be reviewed / agreed with the Consultant on an annual basis by the Clinical Director Terms of Service This post is subject to national terms and conditions of service under the conditions of the Consultant Contract 2003. Applicants for this post are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1972 and are required to declare prosecutions or convictions including those considered spent under this Act.

Proposed Job Plan This job plan is an example; the days are likely to vary according to service plans and may vary according to the clinical needs of the service or the hours agreed by the employee. Example of Job Plan 1.0 WTE post holder Monday: AM - Clinic PM - Admin Tuesday: AM - Clinic PM - Admin Wednesday: AM - SPA PM - SPA and triage Thursday: AM - Clinic PM - Admin Friday: AM - Named Doctor Role PM - DCC Where clinical training falls on non SPA sessions clinical duties will be rescheduled to facilitate clinical delivery to ensure yearly DCC are attained.
DCC is direct clinical activity. 1 PA clinic generates 1 PA admin for dictation / paperwork and ongoing case management. Additional DCC will include allocated time for telephone clinics and prescription rota . AR is additional responsibility for a lead role for the Department to be arranged depending on service need taking into consideration the Consultants particular interest.
