Description:

The Community Dietitian is an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team, who will promote nutrition through population health,
community mobilization, and community health development. Creating an interdisciplinary collaborative relationship with fellow
health care team members, and other community agencies to ensure a high standard of practice and delivery of quality client care.
Guided by Northern Health Region Primary Health Care principles, will strive to improve the health status of the residents of the
Northern Health Region (NHR). This will be achieved through his/her expertise in nutrition assessments and clinical based service
delivery, health related community action and development, health promotion and education, harm reduction, health protection,
social determinants of health, illness and injury prevention, management of chronic illness, clinical services, and research. The
Community Dietitian will develop and implement health plans from a client centered strength based/holistic approach.
This position requires some provision of services and travel to outlying communities.
The NHR endorses the Principles of Harm Reduction and, as per policy, all staff will establish a context that supports individuals,
families and communities in making healthy decisions directed toward reducing or containing the adverse health, social and
economic consequences of behaviors, attitudes and environments that may increase risk to a person’s health.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nutrition or Food Science or equivalent program from recognized University
  • Completion of Dietitians of Canada Accredited Dietetic Internship Program
  • Registration with the Provincial Regulatory Body as a Registered Dietitian
  • Current certification from a recognized Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS), or obtain within three (3) months of

commencing employment

  • An asset to have: NVCI, ASSIST
  • Must have a valid Manitoba Class V driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and willing to use it to travel in region throughout

the year

  • Knowledge of computers, specifically window based programs
  • Two (2) years of directly related work experience in community health and/or Primary Health Care Community settings
  • Satisfactory employment record required
  • Successful candidate subject to provide security checks in accordance with Security Checks for Employment Policy (HR-02-
