Description:

OVERVIEW:

The Emergency Programs and Housing Services (EPHS) department at Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County (CCSCC) is dedicated to providing comprehensive support and resources to individuals and families in need. This department focuses on various critical areas such as food distribution, disaster preparedness and recovery, and housing services. It aims to alleviate immediate hunger through a robust food distribution program, enhance community resilience with essential disaster preparedness and recovery services, and support housing stability through rental assistance initiatives. By addressing these key needs, the department works to foster a stronger, more resilient community and ensure access to vital resources for stability and recovery.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Support the Emergency Programs & Housing Services Department at local community outreach events and food distribution sites. Provide referrals and information to the community regarding internal CCSCC programs. Work with the community to build relationships with clients and volunteers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of a high school degree or GED certification (Equivalent education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job may be considered.)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • A high energy, optimistic attitude that encourages and motivates clients living in stressful, high pressure situations.
  • A proven commitment to continuous quality improvement, including an openness to constructive feedback.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. keyboarding, Microsoft Office Suite, Email), as well as learning new technology tools quickly.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations such as individuals with low and fixed income, underserved Santa Clara County residents, including but not limited to seniors, students, and transition age youth.
  • Excellent multicultural experience and ability to work well with a diverse population.
  • Flexible, proactive, adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, enabling the candidate to work collaboratively with diverse audiences and de-escalate tense situations.
  • Completion of annual CCSCC certification training to drive agency vehicles.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to walk or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 65 pounds.
  • Ability to travel and/or drive to agency sites within Santa Clara County.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check via livescan fingerprint.
  • Must have TB test performed and submit results.
  • Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster status.
  • Automobile, valid driver’s license and auto insurance per agency policy; or have access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all logistics and operations for large-scale food distribution sites around the county.
  • Provide information and resources to the community that are culturally, linguistically, and developmentally appropriate for the region being served.
  • Assist with setup, distribution of information to the public, and clean up at community events.
  • Clearly and accurately provide information to the general public regarding Disaster Preparedness or other EPHS information at various community events.
  • Communicate effectively with program staff, management, clients, and volunteers.
  • Engage in team building activities.
  • Drive a company vehicle and ensure adequate upkeep.
  • Complete other activities needed to meet the goals of the position and the Division.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
