Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service’s (TNPS) Community Outreach Specialist will be responsible for maintaining relationships with Tsuut’ina community members and groups, as well as with outside community agencies in relation to the Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF) grant addressing gun and gang violence.
Reporting to the Community Outreach Research and Program Coordinator, This position will work within the RKeepers7 project, funded by the BSCF grant. This position will be part of a team that will deliver the initiatives outlined in the comprehensive three-year gun and gang prevention and intervention strategy that was created during the BSCF Developmental Year. The Community Outreach Specialist will support the RKeepers7 Community Partnership Program to develop and deliver the prevention and intervention initiatives, increase public awareness and education on identified issues, and recruit community partners to deliver initiatives through the RCPP. This position will receive direction and instruction from the Community Outreach Research and Program Coordinator and the RKeepers7 Committees to ensure the strategy’s initiatives and activities remain culturally relevant and meet the BSCF grant deliverables.

Roles and responsibilities
- Maintain community relationships with, but not limited to, the Tsuut’ina Nation, the Stoney Nakoda communities of Eden Valley and Morley, along with the Siksika community, partner agencies, Elders, community youth, and former gang associates.
- Support the development, coordination, and delivery of grant programs outlined in the BSCF strategy, with a key focus on delivering community-based prevention and intervention strategies and initiatives to tackle gun and gang violence.
- Support the RKeepers7 Community Partnership Program [RCPP] to develop and deliver the prevention and intervention initiatives, increase public awareness and education on identified issues, and recruit community partners to deliver initiatives through the RCPP.
- Liaise with outside agencies to collect, manage and distribute relevant crime and intelligence information, including prevention/intervention initiatives.
- Strive to increase the knowledge of the nature, scope and identified challenges of gun and gang violence education
- Monitor and report to Program Coordinator on the delivery of the grant-focused activities to achieve successful outcomes and meet key targets and initiatives.
- Develop effective communication processes to ensure project progress and issue reporting to all collaborative partners.
- Support the RKeepers7 committees and advisors to ensure the strategy is being delivered in a culturally appropriate and relevant way to the community.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned and required.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma (or equivalent)
- Post-secondary education with a concentration in Human Services, Social Sciences, or Criminal Justice is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience having developed a solid foundation in tools, methods and techniques used in community building and the criminal justice system while working with Indigenous communities.
Previous policing and/or law enforcement experience is considered an asset.
Licenses and Certificates
Current Province of Alberta driver’s license with safe driving record.
Additional notes
- An enhanced security clearance will be required for candidates selected for this position.
- Please note Priority will be given to Community members of Tsuut’ina Nation who meet the qualifications and skills.
- Applicant must be minimum 18 years of age.
- This position is a grant-funded position contingent upon annual BSCF funding from Public Safety Canada (PSC). The grant is currently funded until March 31, 2026.
