Spectrum Care Trust is a disability support service for people with intellectual disabilities. We are looking for a community support worker to support a young lady in West Auckland on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. She lives independently in her own flat and is looking for support to build her independence and to connect more with the community.
We have more than 300 worksites and support options across the whole Auckland region from Warkworth to Waiuku.
In Choices of Community Living, we provide services for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities within their own homes and out into their community. We provide 1:1 support.
As a Community Support Worker you will take on tasks that are dynamic and will depend on the needs and dreams of each person. You will support people to find and follow those dreams; making friends, having fun, connecting and contributing to their local communities, continuing to grow personally, and to find work, education, and other meaningful occupation.
We are looking for people who are energetic and passionate. People with hobbies and interests and skills that they will enjoy sharing with others. It could be drama, music, art, dance, entrepreneurialism, the environment, horticulture, hospitality, sports or something completely different. We need people who are well connected to their communities and will help others connect to them too.
Skills & Experience
Empathy for the challenges of trying to build an ordinary life while living with a disability
Energy to keep up with someone who likes to be on the go a lot
Ability to remain calm, and calming, in all situations
Resilience to help people keep boundaries to ensure their safety
Good at explaining and negotiating
Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you support
Ability and willingness to provide support and motivation with personal cares and daily living skills
The ideal candidate will have:
An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you work
Experience supporting people with disabilities, and or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessary
Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people
A full New Zealand driver’s licence
Able to pass a NZ police check
The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email
