The Improvement Service (IS) is looking to recruit a Project Officer to provide support to Local Authorities in Scotland to deliver on Community Wealth Building (CWB). CWB is a developing people-centred approach to local economic development that redirects wealth and control back into local economies, for the benefit of local people and communities.
The Community Wealth Building Project Officer will support the local authority Community Wealth Building Practitioners Network, established by North Ayrshire Council, facilitating knowledge exchange, sharing of good practice and appropriate materials, and will coordinate networking opportunities. They will also map practice across Scotland and research how local areas are measuring progress towards Community Wealth Building. Particular focus will be on exploring the Inclusive Ownership pillar of CWB to help support the increase of co-operatives, employee-owned businesses, and social enterprises in Scotland.
The Officer will support local authorities across Scotland to come together to work on solutions to the challenges and barriers they face in the delivery of CWB. Connections with other public bodies will be supported to further share knowledge and align work where possible, particularly across the larger ‘anchor’ organisations.
The role will seek to ensure that better connections are made with other policy areas, which will help to deliver, and be supported by, the delivery of Community Wealth Building approaches.
This is an exciting new opportunity to help local areas to further implement community wealth building approaches to improve economic wellbeing for communities across Scotland.
