Alstar is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual looking to grow their career in Safety. This vital role is a full-time permanent position based out of our SE fabrication shop in Calgary (8700 Venture Ave SE, not transit-accessible). The candidate will provide assistance to the Safety Operations Coordinator by ensuring the assigned location and personnel are operating in a safe environment and ensure the Alstar Safety Management System (SMS) is consistently being followed. The Company Safety Officer (CSO) will provide ongoing leadership, training and support to meet the internal and external HSE needs of Alstar. The Company Safety Officer (CSO) will act as a role model for the Alstar values.

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • DAY Shift: Monday to Thursday, 06:00 - 16:30 10-hour days at the shop location
  • Must be flexible with work schedule to accommodate business needs
  • Majority of time to be spent on the shop floor, yard and field ensuring compliance to Alstar’s Safety Management System
  • This role will have on-call expectations during the weekdays and weekends; it is considered a safety-sensitive position
  • Travel to and work at field sites and Alstar’s Leduc Facility when required

POSITION-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provide safety support throughout the company
  • Work with the safety team to deliver a consistent approach to safety and its processes company-wide
  • Implement and monitor corporate safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings to groups of 60 people or more
  • Present orientations and training internal staff and contractors as required
  • Conduct shop and yard inspections
  • Assist in safety program development and continual improvement
  • Conduct and assist with audits (internal, supervisor)
  • Incident investigations and WCB case management
  • Prepare and maintain HSE reports and recommend appropriate actions
  • Other duties assigned by the Safety Operations Coordinator
