Description:

Applications are invited for the position of Compensation Specialist in the Human Resources Division, located at the Welland Campus. The salary range is $76,029 to $95,038 for a 35-hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.
Reporting to the Director, HRIS and Total Compensation, the successful candidate provides specialized services in job evaluation as well as the assistance in the implementation and administration of the College’s compensation programs. The position will determine the classification of positions using the appropriate job evaluation system, carry out compensation reviews and monitor consistency of evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum three (3) year diploma/degree in Business, Human Resources or similar field of study
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in a large organization with multiple benefit plans, preferably in a unionized environment
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) Designation or CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) Designation are considered assets
  • Minimum of 5 years compensation and classification experience preferably within a unionized and/or educational institution
  • Training and/or experience related to pay equity and the compliance of the Pay Equity Act
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to interpret policies, collective agreements and other related legislative documentation
  • Demonstrated coaching or training skills, the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of team members
  • Analytical skills to address complex classification issues
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
  • HRIS experience required, PeopleSoft or similar system is considered an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, researches, and determines classification of job descriptions applying College job evaluation systems consistently
  • Completes internal reviews for internal equity and consistency
  • Maintains records of all positions including job descriptions and job evaluation information
  • Process wage and salary step increases for all full and part-time employees based on compensation guidelines and collective agreements
  • Provides advice and training with the Human Resources department and to people leaders across the organization
  • Ensures pay equity compliance including maintenance of Pay Equity plans for all employee groups
  • Completion of external salary surveys
