The role of Completions Engineer onshore is a core role to Suncor forming the liaison between the Completions group and their internal Suncor clients. The Completions Engineer is responsible for engineering, cost estimating, and programming well related work across the Wells onshore portfolio. The Engineer works collaboratively with the respective Completions Superintendent to manage these projects safely and efficiently. The Completions Engineer designs and fosters implementation of operational and technical requirements critical to the execution of completions operations throughout the Wells Onshore portfolio. This role participates in industry gatherings, mentors others, and participates in Completions group related initiatives within the Wells onshore team.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5yrs years relevant industry experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Wellview, PowerBi
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the curiosity to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, processes, and hazards in the workplace
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills; good presentation skills; well organized; positive influence; collaborative; accountable

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing and programing completion and workover activities, demonstrating a high level of collaboration with the operations and asset teams
  • Responsible for development of engineering programs relating to well kill procedures, service rig operations, ESP replacement, downhole instrumentation deployment, inventory management, ESP installation, coiled tubing operations, electric wireline, slickline, swabbing, injection testing, production testing, down hole abandonment, wellhead installation, and OCTG design and installation
  • Stewardship of operating expense and capital budgets which involves development, tracking, reporting, and forecasting
  • Steward to the program budgets which involves development, tracking, reporting, and forecasting
  • Maintain KPI reporting to ensure accuracy and transparency
  • Implement, steward, analyze, and improve operations and the Suncor new well and winter well completions design as it evolves for both inflight execution wells and future well projects
  • Work closely with Completions Operations Calgary and field personnel to optimize down hole operations
  • Provide technical and advisory support for internal client groups and work with them to understand and define the scope of work
  • Select and liaise with vendors to coordinate materials and services
  • Work with the integrated team to develop program schedules. Arrange long lead items, schedule operations, and plan for execution
  • Participate in industry gatherings, network with other SAGD operator completions people, and participate in completions-related initiatives within In Situ
  • Understand the financial processes and support the supply chain and project controls requirements to best manage the financial aspect of completions related projects
  • Take pride in supporting our Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) program and Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) development
  • Regular visits to the field to learn the completions operation, build relationships with the field operations personnel, understand how Suncor business is done, gain operations knowledge, and support programs and projects

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
