Description:
Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Development Composite Technician.
Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego, CA-92154 location and reports to the Director of Development.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary position covers all levels of general composites fabrication and will support our R&D and custom development projects. The Development Composite Technician is a senior level role and will require advanced composite fabrication experience.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years of composite experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience with Electrical, Mechanical, RF, and system or component testing
- CAD experience, CNC Programming or operation, and 3D printing Preferred
- Pneumatic / hydraulic experience
- System level experience
- Report writing
- Travel up to 25%
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Able to perform/oversee complex composite fabrication, mechanical and/or electromechanical assembly operation.
- Ability to interface with customer vendors, internal and external engineers, etc.
- Ability to operate and evaluate /test various shop / manufacturing equipment
- Capable of recognizing and solving problems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings / GDT, specs, data sheets, process documents, etc.
- Ability to perform research to solve complex manufacturing challenges
- Ability to perform in a very fast-paced complex, demanding, environment
- Good manual dexterity
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills
DUTIES AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT INCLUDE:
- Wet lay-up, infusion, pre preg lay-up (oven & autoclave cure), press curing of composites, casting various materials
- Evaluating tooling approaches / concepts, new processes, materials, and coating
- Hand trimming, conventional machining (Mill, Lathe, surface grinder etc.) of high value, mission critical prototype hardware, structures, and/or assemblies
- Bonding precision with tight tolerance using film adhesives and structural adhesives
