Description:
The Compositing Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of Compositors and Leads and managing the quality of the compositing work and the overview of color continuity on a show. The Compositing Supervisor also works closely with the VFX Supervisor or CG Supervisor to communicate and delegate the compositing needs of the show to the team as well as represents the voice of the Compositing team with respect to workload and pipeline environment. They spend approximately 30% time interfacing with Production (dailies, meetings, answering productions questions), 15% time ensuring everything is set up to run smoothly and efficiently for the compositors (interfacing with other departments and relating that information to the team), 20% time helping compositors and leads, 35% qcing shots.
Job Responsibilities:
- Follows the guidelines of the VFX Supervisor, the Art Director, the Producers, and the clients and take all necessary means to ensure a good path
- Participates in the production meetings, to the meetings with clients and transmits the information to his team members
- Ensures quality control and internal approval before sending it to the clients
- Manages, supports, and trains his team members as needed so that they can meet the quality standards required by the production
- Also, take part in pipeline meetings to request and evaluate tools for the pipeline.
- Take an active part in post mortem process of a project
- Works closely with production to bid and schedule work and resources
- Direct task to junior/mid/senior level artists and crew shots appropriately to their level of expertise
- Take responsibility for the quality of work of the team as a whole
- Work proactively and collaboratively with all other VFX and support departments
- Attend client reviews and lead daily reviews with the composity team
- Balance the creative and technical aspects of each shot/sequence
- Solve any difficult technical and artistic compositing challenges of a shot/sequence
- Take a leadership role in guiding the longer-term goals of the 2D department, covering both building up a team of Compositors as well as 2D pipeline development.
Qualifications and Essential Skills:
- Previous experience in a leadership role
- Excellent communication skills (with immediate team and other departments of the visual effect pipeline)
- Deep understanding of film VFX processes and pipeline
- Serveral years experience in compositing predominantly in Film or TV and commercials
- Expert user of Nuke plus other compositing software
- Critical eye for detail and a beautiful compositing showreel
- Able to work well under pressure
- Proven artist management and leadership skills
- Highly organized
- Lighting photography core skills
