Description:
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and at least one year of progressively responsible experience in the operation of construction-related tools and equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California Class C driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency’s vehicle insurance program.
Weigh Master Certificate required within one year of appointment and must be maintained during course of employment.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Maintenance and minor repair of equipment used in a composting facility.
Shop mathematics.
Agency ordinances, codes, procedures and practices regarding area of assignment.
Safety policies and safe work practices applicable to the work.
Fire safety procedures and emergency response procedures.
EDUCATIONAL REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM
The Agency may reimburse eligible employees for the cost of educational courses up to $5,250 per fiscal year for the cost of educational expenses that are related to the employee’s work. Limited Term employees are not eligible for this benefit.
Responsibilities:
THE DUTIES LISTED BELOW ARE INTENDED ONLY AS ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE VARIOUS TYPES OF WORK THAT MAY BE PERFORMED. THE OMISSION OF SPECIFIC STATEMENTS OF DUTIES DOES NOT EXCLUDE THEM FROM THE POSITION IF THE WORK IS SIMILAR, RELATED OR A LOGICAL ASSIGNMENT TO THIS CLASS.
Performs housekeeping duties in facilities including cleaning and removing waste products, cleaning screens, chutes, conveyers and vents, and performing janitorial tasks.
Learns to maintain and operates large front-end loader, backhoes, skip loaders, skid steers, water trucks and other light, medium and heavy-duty motorized equipment associated with the operation of the facility.
Operates trucks, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, steam cleaners, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric tools, and related tools and equipment.
Operates large front-end loader to perform truck loading and to turn piles. The Agency anticipates that these duties will comprise approximately 25% (up to 520 hours per year) of the Compost Worker’s regular duties.
Performs vehicle and equipment safety checks; reports need for repair; performs minor maintenance tasks such as making adjustments, fueling, refilling fluids and cleaning, and assists more experienced mechanics in repairs and preventative maintenance.
Performs and documents routine regulatory tests including ammonia tests, meter readings, water pressure and salt in water softener.
Picks up parts and equipment needed for maintenance and repair work.
Makes oral and written reports for work done; completes basic records, such as work orders and time sheets; attends meetings; participates in Authority and Agency safety training.
May be required to operate a truck scale.
