About the Computer Analyst role:
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Computer Analyst I to work in the lab of Dr. Sean Morrison at the Children’s Medical Center Research Institute (CRI) at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. The Morrison lab’s goal is to better understand the mechanisms that regulate stem cell function and how cancer cells hijack these mechanisms to enable tumor formation. A better understanding of these mechanisms offers the potential for new regenerative medicine and cancer therapies. For more information about the Morrison lab, please visit

The ideal candidate is an organized, proactive professional who will support graduate students and postdoctoral fellows on their research projects. This would be an excellent role for someone seeking to gain experience on various types of computation, bioinformatics, and biostatistical projects. The incumbent in the role will collaborate with a Bioinformaticist in the Morrison lab.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computational biology, biology, mathematics, physics, engineering, or a similar major.
  • Linus command-line operations, shell and awk scripting.
  • Workflow development using YAML or equivalent tools.
  • Programming language: R with R Shiny
  • Web development using the Apache web server, Django framework and SQLite database or equivalent tools.
  • An interest in biomedical research, particularly stems cells and cancer.

Preferred experience:

  • Experience in using a computer cluster/cloud for parallel computing.
  • Experience in bioinformatics/biostatistical data analysis.
  • Experience in biomedical research.

Physical Requirements
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace.
