The Saskatchewan Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety’s Provincial Protective Services Branch is seeking recruit candidates for its province-wide Conservation Officer Service.
The Western Conservation Law Enforcement Academy (WCLEA) program – which begins May 1, 2025 – provides a core curriculum of training and testing to attain certification as a Government of Saskatchewan Conservation Officer.
WCLEA certification is required for the recruitment and placement of SGEU Level 10 positions across the province.
Successful candidates will have knowledge of applicable federal and provincial legislation, policies, programs and agreements related to resource and environmental law, as well as knowledge of law enforcement, court procedures, legal documents and processes. You will have the ability to apply conflict resolution skills and appropriate techniques required to conduct enforcement and non-enforcement investigations. To be successful in this position, recruits must have the ability to operate firearms, vehicles and a wide variety of equipment in a safe and proficient manner.
Saskatchewan Conservation Officers are members of the Provincial Protection and Response Team, aiding in the reduction of crime by responding to 911 calls when RCMP or municipal police agencies are unavailable, or when Conservation Officers can provide the fastest first response. Conservation Officers take direct enforcement action during crimes in progress and provide assistance and support to police agencies as requested.
Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of a Degree or Diploma in Resource and Environmental Law or Integrated Resource Management, as well as progressive in-service training and demonstrated experience working in a conservation-related role.
Applicants who receive interviews must bring a valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) certificate to the interview (a valid PARE certificate must be successfully acquired within six months of the interview date).
To qualify for these positions, you will:
- be required to pass a psychological personality assessment to determine suitability for law enforcement; and
- possess a valid driver’s license.
