Description:

CONSERVATION & RESEARCH TECHNICIAN (PART-TIME)

The Conservation & Research Technician participates in conservation projects and research programs alongside GSC staff, academic partners, government agencies, and NGO partners to fulfill the GSCs conservation and research initiatives. Work occurs predominantly at the GSC however the position does include off-site work to complete field conservation projects. The position is scheduled to work 20-28 hours/week, Friday Monday with additional hours to assist with fieldwork.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidate must hold a valid US drivers license
  • Husbandry experience is required
  • A degree in a science-related field is preferred
  • Candidates must be able to hike over uneven terrain while carrying equipment and supplies
  • Must be able to work on different projects throughout the week, multi-tasking
  • Candidates should expect to work 20-28 hours/ week, Friday Monday

KNOWLEDGE OF OR SKILLS DEMONSTRATED

  • Animal Husbandry experience is required
  • Experience with herp or freshwater aquarium husbandry is preferred
  • Experience with bioacoustics analysis is recommended
  • Experience with trail camera analysis is recommended
  • Excellent communication and positive attitude is necessary
  • Works well both in a team and independently

Responsibilities:

  • Husbandry of freshwater fishes and freshwater mussels.
  • Assist with freshwater mussel propagation and growing out
  • Husbandry and fieldwork with snakes and small mammals
  • Maintain water quality in the lab
  • Husbandry of native butterfly species during the seasonal butterfly house exhibition
  • Assist with hands-on biological surveys using techniques including live trapping and handling, fish surveys, and freshwater mussel surveys.
  • Assist with non-invasive biological surveys using trail cameras, bat detectors, and bird recorders and performing data analysis from the various equipment.
