Job Title: Construction Claims Technician
Reporting to: Claims Manager

Position Type: Permanent, Full Time 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Job Purpose:
Investigation, examination, negotiation, and settlement of credit insurance claims
This role focuses mainly on construction claims made by sub-contractors and suppliers to the construction sector. However, there will be a requirement to undertake claims assessments in other industries.
Full claims training will be provided to applicants who have prior construction experience/knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examining and assessing claims submitted including making settlement within agreed authority schedules and specified timescales.
- Setting up, reviewing, and paying claims using bespoke IT systems
- Recording and / or monitoring insolvency dates forming the claim event
- Assessing opportunities to mitigate any losses
- Following up with ongoing communication mitigation opportunities
- Analytically assessing claims including applying judgment to uncertified applications and final accounts
- Calculating reserves and inputting into claims system
- Confirming insolvency events, collecting loss information and recording it
- Liaison with Insolvency Practitioners and external stakeholders
- Identifying fraudulent claims
- Attending creditors meetings, assisting with proofs of debt and proxies, following up dividends
- Reporting (where appropriate) concerns to Risk / Underwriters for limit / cover reviews
- Informing management of potential large losses and recording same on department Trawl spreadsheet
- Handling general email and telephone queries
- Filing claims documentation in paperless filing system, keeping records up to date
- Liaison with underwriters
- Advising Policyholders on claims procedures and cover
- Other reasonable duties as instructed by the Claims Manager
- Ensuring a professional and fair approach is portrayed at all times
- Actively seeking better ways to do things
- Managing client and broker relationships as required
Skills and Experience Specification:
Essential:
- Construction Industry experience
- Strong written communication skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills, Confident telephone manner.
- Word & Excel skills & working knowledge of other Microsoft applications
- Ability to assess complex matters and report succinctly
- Flexible, proactive attitude & team player
- Commercial awareness
- Able to work on own initiative
- Attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and challenge the norm
Desirable:
- Degree/BTEC/professional qualification in a construction related subject; or
- Accountancy, surveying experience within a construction company.
- ICM member. Either qualified (AICM, MICM, FICM) or working towards qualification.
- CII Member and either qualified, or working towards qualification.
- Credit Management/Accounts Receivable or Accounts Payable experience/ knowledge
- Degree in an analytical subject (eg economics, law, history)
